January 2009 Hello Patrons
and Friends! Welcome to our website! We hope that despite knowing we face a difficult economy in the coming year, that you and your family enjoyed a safe and happy holiday season. 2008 turned out to be quite a year! While the downturn in the economy and the national elections were the major events, we are pleased to report that the Fallen Firefighters Memorial and Fire Museum continued to make progress under difficult financial circumstances. We had no significant movement with regard to state support but we did experience a surge of support from the public and that encourages us to persevere into the new year with continued determination. We distributed two newsletters and the next issue is already in the works. We became affiliated with the Shop For Museum agency that enables a portion of your online sales with national retailers to be contributed to the museum project. Our sports-themed fund-raisers for the Fallen Firefighter Memorial were successful and at the state firemen’s convention in Wildwood, over $10,000 was raised towards the Fallen Firefighters Memorial. While we focus on political and corporate support during the next few months we ask you the firefighter community and the general public to “keep the faith” and support us with continued memberships and purchases of memorial pavers. As the dates for 2009 events are confirmed we will post them to the website Coming Events page. We have placed recurring annual events in the appropriate month even if we don’t know the exact date yet so that you can plan to attend and come back to check the website later for the exact date and Points of Contact. We are interested in having new members join both the Board of Directors and the Honorary Board of Directors so if you or someone you know might be interested in helping the project, please contact Helen or myself at the phone numbers listed at the end of this note. We remain optimistic that despite the financial situation in Trenton, our legislature or state government may find a way to help with our Phase One construction plans this year. We remain a 100% volunteer group of citizens. Please help spread the word. If you have any questions, we'd like to hear from you! Please contact Helen at (732) 463-7445 or myself at (732) 539-0168 or send us an email via the website or call and leave your name and phone number at the business office (732) 222-5783.
